A hundred opponents.
A score that moves with the fight.
The artistic challenge
The “Fight of 100” was fully choreographed to the score. The music needed to give the physical action rhythm, weight, and momentum within the larger dramatic world of the play.
My contribution
I composed the original score and designed the production’s sound, bringing together beatboxing, electronics, cello, woodwinds, piano, and drums. The work moves from the force of combat to the stillness of mourning.
Action / Rhythm / Choreography

How musical rhythm can organize physical action. Listen for changes in momentum, and consider how a choreographed fight can unfold through a score.
Beyond the score
At selected moments, Cyrano’s amplified voice moved through the theatre, extending his presence beyond the stage and surrounding the audience.
Concealed floor microphones supported speech intelligibility where needed. Battle sequences and fight effects gave the war and combat scenes their sonic force.
